The 5th Hands On Weekend, billed as a "Practical Introduction to Steam Cultivation" was staged by the Steam Plough Club over the weekend of the 13-14th July near Southam in Warwickshire. The land used for the event was kindly provided by SPC committee member Michael Davies who also provide engines and ploughing tackle.

Around 18 students took part, some previous students of the courses, for others it was their first experience in the art of steam ploughing. The students were split into 3 groups and spent a couple of hours on each taking turns to control the plough and implement, an instructor was assigned to each to offer advice and guidance.

The following pairs of engines served as "school" engines over the weekend:

Fowler Z7, 15670
Fowler Z7, 15673

Fowler AA, 15257
Fowler BB, 13482

Fowler BB1, 15182
Fowler BB1, 15183

Thanks must go to event co-ordinator John Billard, land owner Michael Davies and the many other volunteers who gave up their knowledge, equipment and time to allow the event to take place.
